What this site uses
Cookies are small text records stored by your browser. This site uses the cookies listed below. Optional Google Analytics runs only after you explicitly allow analytics. CompTech analytics does not use advertising features. Optional EasyDMARC tools have their own cookies and analytics, explained below. Our consent and course code does not use local storage or session storage.
| Cookie | Purpose | When set | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
ct_cookie_choice_v2 | Strictly necessary. Remembers separate functional and analytics choices, their expiry and the policy version. Existing choices made before analytics was introduced do not permit analytics. | When you use the cookie banner or save cookie settings. | 183 days (about six months) |
ct_breach_check_v1 | Remembers separate permission for the email breach checker. Permission for the other tools does not enable this checker. | Only when you allow Email breach checker. | 183 days, or until permission is withdrawn |
ct_external_tools_v1 | Remembers your separate permission for EasyDMARC security tools. Existing cookie choices do not enable these tools. | Only when you allow External security tools. | 183 days, or until permission is withdrawn |
ct_course_general_v1 | Optional functional storage. Saves completed screens, required interactions and active learning time for the general cyber security course. It contains no personal data. | Only after you allow functional storage, enter the course and begin learning. | 180 days, or until you reset the course or withdraw permission |
ct_course_education_v1 | Optional functional storage. Saves completed screens, required interactions and active learning time for the education cyber security course. It contains no personal data. | Only after you allow functional storage, enter the course and begin learning. | 180 days, or until you reset the course or withdraw permission |
_ga and _ga_19LZ9S85H4 | Optional Google Analytics cookies that distinguish browsers and maintain visit information. Google receives technical and usage information; this is not anonymous processing. | Only after analytics opt-in, on eligible pages at www.comptechits.co.uk. | 183 days from creation, or until analytics permission is withdrawn. Analytics event-data retention is set separately to two months. |
Why these cookies remain available
The cookie-choice record is necessary to remember your privacy selection. Course progress storage is optional: it is written only after you allow functional cookies. Rejecting or withdrawing permission removes stored progress, but the course and certificate continue to work in temporary memory until the page closes or refreshes.
The learner name entered at the course gate remains only in temporary page memory. It is not placed in cookies and is cleared when the course is refreshed or closed.
Third-party services
Google Analytics loads only with analytics permission on our production hostname. It does not run on previews, local development or course pages. We send a known page route without query strings or fragments and a referrer origin only. With analytics consent, we also record a successful contact form submission after our contact service confirms success, without sending form contents. Names, organisation names, email addresses, telephone numbers, messages, form contents and learner information are not sent to Google Analytics. Cloudflare provides hosting and Turnstile form protection independently of optional analytics. Other external websites are contacted when you choose their links.
Optional EasyDMARC security tools
The domain scanner and phishing link checker load only after you allow External security tools. This is separate from functional storage and CompTech analytics. EasyDMARC receives submitted domains or links and technical browser information. Its embeds may use cookies, Google Tag Manager and Mixpanel analytics, including on previews and when CompTech analytics is off. See EasyDMARC’s privacy information for its processing and retention practices.
Turning this category off unloads the tools and stops further activity from those frames. It cannot remove information already received by EasyDMARC or cookies held on its domain. You can remove those through your browser settings. Do not submit personal information, private links or complete emails.
Optional email breach checker
This checker uses Have I Been Pwned data and is hosted by a separate external provider. It loads only after you allow Email breach checker, separately from the other tools and analytics. The host receives technical request information and the email address or phone number you submit. It may set service cookies, including form-security cookies. Existing external-tool permission does not enable this new provider.
Turning the choice off unloads the checker and stops further activity from its frame. It cannot delete information already received or cookies held by the provider. Do not enter passwords or check someone else's details without permission. Contact us through our Privacy Notice for questions about this service.
Change or withdraw your choice
Use the “Cookie settings” control in the footer at any time. Withdrawing consent is as easy as giving it. Choosing “Reject non-essential” stops CompTech analytics, unloads external tools and keeps both courses usable, but progress will not persist between visits. You can allow each category independently. Withdrawing analytics stops future collection and removes its cookies; it does not erase information already received by Google.
You can also remove cookies through your browser settings. Blocking all cookies may mean the site cannot remember your privacy choice, so the banner may appear again.
If the purposes or technologies change, the preference version will change and the site will ask you to choose again before any new non-essential storage is used.
