Our School ICT Review gives you a practical view of support, cyber security, Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace, infrastructure and planned projects, so you can see what needs attention now, what can wait and what should be planned next.
The current picture
The review begins with the current environment rather than assuming everything needs replacing.
We look at how support is working, where recurring problems sit, how accounts and security are managed, whether infrastructure is fit for purpose and what projects need planning.
Review support routes, recurring issues, onsite arrangements, supplier responsibilities and whether staff know where to get help.
Review identity, devices, patching, email security, backup, staff awareness and filtering or monitoring controls where relevant.
Review Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace, user lifecycle, permissions, MFA, shared data, licensing and device management where relevant.
Review Wi-Fi, switching, connectivity, servers, devices, classroom technology, lifecycle planning and upcoming projects that may need budget or coordination.
DfE technology standards
The review can consider relevant DfE digital and technology standards alongside the school’s current environment, helping identify what is already in place, what needs attention and where ownership sits.
It is not a formal audit of every standard.
CompTech does not certify a school against DfE standards and the School ICT Review is not a formal statutory or safeguarding audit.
Where filtering and monitoring forms part of the review, governing bodies and school leadership retain overall responsibility and the DSL retains safeguarding decisions and responses. CompTech or internal IT can support the technical implementation, testing, review and evidence.
No filtering or monitoring product replaces the school’s wider safeguarding processes.
Clear priorities
The findings should help leadership decide what needs action now, what needs planning and what can remain under review.
Issues that create an immediate operational, security or safeguarding-related concern.
Improvements that need budget, coordination or a future project.
Areas that are currently acceptable but should continue to be monitored.
An independent view
The School ICT Review does not mean a school has to replace its current provider. It can provide an independent view for leadership, an internal IT team or a trust that wants clearer priorities before making a budget, project or support decision.
an independent second opinion on current ICT support
internal IT needs additional capacity or specialist input
a trust wants greater consistency across multiple schools
a budget, device refresh or infrastructure project needs better evidence
leadership is considering a provider, cloud or cyber-security decision
sickness, leave or staffing gaps have exposed support risks
A straightforward review
We talk through how the school or trust works, what technology and support arrangements are in place and where the main concerns sit.
We review the areas that matter most across support, security, cloud platforms, infrastructure, relevant standards and planned work.
We bring the findings together around Act now, Plan next and Keep under review, giving leadership a clearer basis for support, budget and project decisions.
The outcome is a clearer view of the current position, areas of risk or responsibility that need attention and a practical set of priorities for what should happen next.
